My neighbour and good friend has a little guy about to turn the big ONE - O!! He asked for a bedroom makeover for his birthday so she approached me for some help to create the plan.

Her budget was tight, the room was small but her willingness to DIY was huge!

I created a plan that she could easily take on following some tutorials on Pinterest and You Tube. The furniture was all from big box suppliers and on-line as time was of the essence so the room would be complete before the big day.

As soon as she told me she wanted a rustic / industrial look, I knew the look of exposed brick was perfect. Her house was not blessed with brick walls so she had to fake it. And I think she completely killed it with this technique. You can search on Pinterest for a ton of tutorials on this.

Create storage with industrial style.

as kids get older, their storage needs change.

You may not need to have storage for a bunch of toys anymore, needs change so think of storage that can be used for years. Clothes get bigger, toys get less and less and their lego creations make way for sports trophies or musical instruments.

In the corner of the room the clients took on the task of building some industrial pipe shelves that will stand the test of time. For now, they house some lego creations and beloved sports memorabilia. And a boy who loves his hats now has a fun way to display them. (shhh - don’t tell him he’s actually tidying up!)

An industrial style place to do homework

As kids get older, sadly, their homework level increases.

Isn’t there a study somewhere that says if you have a cool homework space, you’ll want to do homework? I’m sure there is.

I wish my bedroom was this cool when I was 10! My clients really worked hard on creating this industrial style bedroom and did such an amazing job. This is absolute proof that you don’t need to have a huge budget to accomplish a complete transformation.
